2010 National Champoinships to be sailed under the burgee of East Lothian YC, North Berwick

The Nationals will be held in Scotland in 2010 at East Lothian YC, North Berwick, between Saturday 31 July and Friday 6 August. Practice Race and First race Sunday 1 August

Reasons to be there:

·       Great racing venue, a club with a good pedigree of running many successful championships
·       Large boat park right next to the clubhouse
·       Easy/quick launching from sandy beach (no queues at a narrow slip!)
·       Late starts (to match local wind conditions) will appeal both to those who like to party late and lie in, and to those who like to get up and do something different or just chill before the racing
·       Highland Games night; Ceilidh (Scottish Tribal Dancing); Fancy Dress – Scottish theme
·       North Berwick is a very attractive seaside town right next to the clubhouse, harbour and beach
·       Local attractions include:sandy beach, National Seabird centre, trips round the Bass Rock, so plenty for the family to enjoy
·       Golf course within walking distance – a quick round before the first race, or a couple of rounds and a leisurely lunch on the lay day?
·       Edinburgh, with all its attractions and nightlife is only 30 minutes away by train, trains run late, and early, and cost around a fiver a trip.
·       Edinburgh Festival will be under way by Saturday 7 August so why not take some extra holiday and enjoy some of the events?

·       You could even get a preview of the venue at the East Lothian open regatta on 5/6 June, the Scottish Ents will be there to welcome you

 2010 Bluebell Events

There are 5 Scottish Bluebell Series events with a minimum of 3 events sailed to qualify

15/16 May at Berwick SC, Berwick on Tweed (Not North Berwick!). Berwick SC is a small, welcoming, very friendly club based at the mouth of the River Tweed. Catering is superb and camping is free in the club grounds. Racing is held out in the bay and is always well organised.

5/6 June at East Lothian YC, North Berwick This event is part of the ELYC open regatta. Racing takes place on the Firth of Forth and as this is also the venue for this year's Nationals it is an ideal opportunity to 'test the water'!

10/11 July at Tynemouth SC This event is shared with the NE Area and is also one of the National Series

28/29 August at St Mary's Loch SC As well as being one of the Bluebell Series this is also the Scottish Nationals and a National Series event. St Mary's is well known for its traditional Scottish Hospitality, cheap bar, bacon rolls served at midnight and Saturday night Ceilidh (Scottish tribal dancing)

25/26 September at Forfar SC Sailing takes place on Forfar Loch which, because of its shape and natural hazards, requires intricate courses meaning boats are always in close contact with each other. This year it is also the chosen venue for the Area Championship. Forfar SC is a small very friendly club with excellent catering and the bar at the Ceilidh is even cheaper than St Mary's!
